The vehicle loading crane training course is designed to equip applicants with the skills and knowledge required to shift loads or operate vehicle mounted loading crane with a capacity of less than 10 metre tonnes.

The training course includes positioning and stabilising a vehicle mounted crane, operating a vehicle mounted crane, monitoring lift conditions, packing up a vehicle mounted crane after operations, and completing all required job records.

Work must be carried out in accordance with the relevant state/territory authority licencing requirements and regulations relating to vehicle mounted loading cranes.

Work is performed under general supervision. It involves the application of routine principles and procedures when operating a vehicle mounted loading crane in a variety of operational contexts.

The vehicle loading crane training course is designed to satisfy the requirements for operators of vehicle-mounted loading cranes with under 10 metre tonnes capacity. For vehicle loading crane with over 10m tonnes capacity, you are required to hold a valid High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) CV or above, which is not covered in this course.

Prerequisites:

  • There are no formal pre requisites for this course.
  • Participants must be 18 years old.
  • A basic mathematical ability to assist in mathematical calculations, reading load charts to determine working radius requirements and relevant lifting gear to perform work/task to enable crane to be configured for load lifting also for completing formulas, interpreting load chart calculations Safe Working Load (SWL) and Working Load Limit (WLL), and understand technical concepts.
  • Basic command of the English language to be able to participate training and assessment tasks.
  • A satisfactory level of health and fitness to carry out duties safely.

Course Introduction:

This training course delivers the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a vehicle-mounted loading crane of under 10 metre tonnes capacity. Including:

  • Positioning and stabilising for crane operations.
  • Operating the crane.
  • Monitoring lifting conditions.
  • Packing up the crane and completing job records.

This training course is currently conducted on your compliant equipment, at either our training location, on your site.  A suitable training room and location must be provided, if training is to be performed at your premises.

Course Outline

1. Position and stabilise vehicle-mounted

  • Crane is driven to position as specified in job plan to ensure safe operation in accordance with applicable Australian Industry Standards crane standards, codes of practice, manufacturer specifications, and relevant regulatory and local government requirements.
  • Barriers, fencing, temporary boundaries and signage are used as required to isolate working area in accordance with safeworking practice and lift requirements.
  • Ground is checked to ensure it is firm enough to bear load to be taken.
  • Appropriate plates or packing are correctly used to adequately distribute load.
  • Outriggers and stabilisers are correctly deployed and positioned in accordance with manufacturer instructions, appropriate Australian standard and other relevant statutory regulations or local authority requirements.
  • Outrigger packing is checked for adequacy prior to and after load is taken.

2. Operate vehicle-mounted crane.

  • Planned hazard control strategies are implemented.
  • Required signals are correctly given, interpreted and followed in accordance with appropriate Australian standards.
  • Load mass is assessed and correlated with crane lifting capacity throughout proposed radii of operation.
  • Appropriate lifting gear is selected and load is secured.
  • Load is hoisted and lowered into position using crane movements in accordancewith appropriate Australian standard.
  • Crane controls are operated smoothly.
  • Crane is shut down and secured during periods of non-operation in accordance with manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures.

3. Monitor lift conditions

  • Load is constantly monitored to ensure load and structural stability.
  • Conditions that may affect continuing stability of crane are identified and monitored.
  • Unplanned situations are responded to in accordance with workplace procedures in a manner that minimises risk to personnel and equipment.
  • Advice is sought from supervisor where there is doubt about correct response to unanticipated conditions or conflict with customer request.
  • Supervisor/allocator is advised of concerns aboutcompleting job within timeframe.
  • Shut-down procedures are implemented in an emergency in accordance with manufacturer instructions.
  • Relevant motion locks and brakes are applied.
  • Crane is shut down using correct sequence of procedures in accordance with manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures.
  • Routine post-operational equipment checks are carried out in accordance with manufacturer specifications.

4. Pack up vehicle-mounted crane

  • All lifting equipment and crane components are checked for any signs of deterioration or damage in accordance with the appropriate Australian standard.
  • Damaged or worn equipment is segregated and reported to an authorised person for testing/repair/destruction.
  • Crane equipment is correctly stowed and secured in accordance with manufacturer instructions and the appropriate Australian standard.
  • Crane is immobilised and secured for travel in accordance with manufacturer instructions, workplace guidelines and regulatory requirements.

5. Complete job records

  • Customer feedback is sought regarding satisfaction with. completed job and areas of concern are reported in accordance with workplace procedures.
  • Customer signature is obtained on job completion documentation.
  • Required workplace records are updated accurately and promptly, and processed in accordance with workplace procedure requirements.

Learning Outcome

On successful completion of the course, participants will have gained the following skills and knowledge for:

  • Monitoring lifting conditions.
  • Packing up the crane and completing job records.

For vehicle loading crane with over 10m tonnes capacity, you are required to hold a valid High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) CV or above, which is not covered in this course.

Assessment Conditions

Safe Work NSW Conditions Of assessment:

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Suitable clothing such as safety boots, long pants and high-vis shirt.
  • Able to produce current photo identification.
  • Ability to communicate and understand English at a level that allows the student to participate in the training and assessment.
  • An Oral assessments can be arranged for applicants with writing and reading difficulties, however, are still required to complete a LLN as part of their enrollment. Additional charges will apply for a oral assessment.

Participant must provide access to:

  • In service and compliant equipment.
  • Lifting gear.
  • Loads to be shifted.
  • Personal protective equipment.
  • A safe environment for training if course is held at your premises.

VOC Assessments

Course Code: VOC for TLID3033

Course Name: Verification Of Competency for Operate a vehicle-mounted loading crane (for under 10 metre tonnes capacity).

Course Cost: $300 per person. Minimum three people required to run this course.

Duration: 4 - 6 hours

Prerequisites:

  • Applicants must hold a current SOA or relevant unit of competency for the VOC being assessed.
  • Ability to read and write basic English.
  • Ability to pass a language, literacy & numeracy assessment (LLN).
  • Provide two forms of identification.
  • May provide verified work documents, logbooks or other evidence of competency to support their evidence of experience.
  • All persons attending assessment must wear steel capped or safety boots; sun protection, hard hat, long sleeved shirt and pants are also recommended for this site.

Course Introduction:

This assessment will determine the operators current ability to demonstrate competency for TLILIC0008 Licence to operate A non slewing mobile crane (CN), in the safe application of:

  • Positioning and stabilising for crane operations.
  • Operating the crane.
  • Monitoring lifting conditions.
  • Packing up the crane and completing job records.

VOC Outline

  • 2-4 hours for assessment depending on person’s ability, and class size
  • Use of plant your compliant equipment at either yours or our premises.
  • Verbal and theoretical questions.
  • Visual observation and practical demonstration.

VOC Outcome

Workers successfully demonstrating competency will be provided with a photo ID Card stating the VOC attained.

Workers who are unable to demonstrate competency will receive written feedback regarding the elements of competency that were lacking, and the nature of the gap training required prior to re-assessment.

We suggest workers that fail to demonstrate successful knowledge of the competency to re-sit the VET course in question.

Cancellations

Fees

Jack Australia charges fees for providing training services to students who undertake training and assessment that leads to a nationally recognised outcome’s. These charges are generally for items such as course materials, text books, student services and training and assessment services.

Fees are payable when a student or employer has received a confirmation of enrolment. The full course payment must be made seven (7) days prior to commencing training. The current fees and charges for training are as per advertised.

Cancellation Of Enrolment

Cancellation of enrolment must be given either by phone or via email. The student may be advised of other options such as suspending the enrolment and re-commencing in another scheduled training program.

Students who give written notice to cancel their enrolment and who are eligible for a refund will receive their refund within 14 days.

Refunds

The following refund policy will apply:

  • Notice given to cancel course enrolment more than 7 days prior to the commencement of a training program, will be entitled to a full refund of fees paid.
  • Any notice given to cancel an enrolment less than 7 days prior to the commencement of a training course will be entitled to a 50% refund of fees paid of full course fee payment. The 50% retained by Jack Australia is required to cover the cost of staff, resources, and lost revenue from potential students wanting to enrol/ attend the course.
  • Students who cancel their enrolment after a training program has commenced will not be entitled to a refund of any fees.
Charges

Jack Australia may levy some miscellaneous charges for services.

These may include:

  • Re-issuing a certificate after it has been initially issued to a student.
  • Replacing issued learning materials which the student has lost or damaged
  • Re-assessment services
Student complaints about fees or refunds

Students who are unhappy with Jack Australia’s arrangements for the collection and refunding of tuition fees are entitled to lodge a complaint.

Our training location is in Sydney at Riverstone in North Western Sydney.

We are located within close proximity to Riverstone railway station, 1km walk to our training site from the train station. Or approximately 20-30 minutes drive from Parramatta, Blacktown, and Windsor or 5 minute drive from Rouse hill Town centre.

Please note that if you are using GPS, be sure type in Riverstone Parade, as there is a Riverstone Road near by. However, if using Google Maps, best to type in Riverstone Business Park, as this will be easily located.
